I have found on Gartner this interesting article and I want to share with you some information. This article is a research which provides a high – level view of the trends in wireless networks, services and platforms through 2012.
In author opinion Mobile and wireless technologies, platforms and services will play a key role in business and IT. Define a strategy that is flexible enough to adapt to the new products and services that will become available through 2012.
The most important findings are:
- Wireless markets are changing, with network operators facing competition from handset vendors, Web ecosystems and media companies all delivering new types of mobile services.
- Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular networks have a solid evolution path from third generation (3G) to fourth generation (4G); long-term evolution (LTE) will dominate wireless broadband deployments.
- Better, faster and less-expensive handsets will be enabled by new technologies, but further consolidations are likely in the handset manufacturer space. The market will remain dominated by a few large vendors, but some incumbents will change by 2012.
- 802.11n will enable Wi-Fi to replace wired Ethernet, thus enabling "all wireless" homes and offices, but expect some interoperability issues with early 802.11n equipment.
