The major focus of WM 6.1 is management, security and network performance. WM 6.1 includes new component SCMDM which enable Microsoft OEMs to battle more aggressively against BlackBerry devices.

WM 6.1 includes a new home screen, supporting a sliding panel that provides more-immediate access to commonly used applications, as well as messaging improvements that include threaded conversations for all supported message types, including Short Message Service (SMS).
WM 6.1 is expected to include a new Internet Explorer Mobile browser, possibly with Ajax and Adobe Flash Lite and Adobe Reader LE support, which author expect will require device reflashing and possibly a hardware upgrade.
