Nokia Set to Become a Leader in Navigation Market.

Browsing Gartner I have found news about Nokia and their plans to become a leader in Navigation Market.

On 23 April 2008 at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Nokia provided an update on the company's Ovi Internet service platform, and its navigation strategy in particular.

Maps 2.0, Nokia's handset navigation application, will launch in May 2008. It will offer better reliability and an enhanced user interface, and will promote local search functionality. They also want to expand its navigation services by adding Maps 2.0 to its Ovi Web site. Users will be able to select destinations online and then sync the address to a phone over a cellular network. This will allow Nokia to catch up with other companies that created partnerships in 2007 to enable similar functionality, such as OnStar and MapQuest, BMW and Google, and Mercedes-Benz and Yahoo.

Author said that Nokia is planning to sell 35 million GPS-enabled phones in 2008 — the company is likely to become the largest individual volume manufacturer for navigation solutions by 2010.
