Definition of 'Mobile Workforce'

On Gartner's site I found article about mobile worforce, which is really important issue, nowadays.

The author writes about many kinds of workforce, defines when can we say, that there is a mobile workforce, and what systems support their work.

There are few problems with mobile workforce - how to measure thier work, how to measure the effectiveness of their tasks, and how to measure the quality of the job, they performed. Author shows the classifications of the mobile workforce and also points the scope of each mobile functions. E.g. there alert, message, forms, knowledge and the power work styles.

We should note, that in each project these classification are mixed. . I mean here that, when saying about field-service applications, we must agree, there used styles are alert, message, forms, knowledge, and power too. Why is that? It's simple. When saying about the system dedicated to managing employees repairing TVs, we have:
- alert style - employee gets a message, that there is a task to do ('one button response'), and he confirms, that the task will be done by him
- message - note sent to the eployee - "Today all employees work till 5pm"
- forms - survey of satisfaction of performed job, etc
- knowlegde - work orders made by employee at customer's site e.g. custmers says, that he dodn't say that before, but second TV must repaired too. DB is being updated (new work order) and then sent to the server part of the system (via WAN)
- power style - more powerful option of client, who can manage orders, give new orders to each employees etc.

That was just my example descibing the mobile workforce management of the company reapiring TVs, but in this article You will find theoretical basics of presented example.

I hope, this article will make you more familiar with 'mobility' issue, and the managing the worforce.

Soon new posts about mobility.
