Ignoring Instant Messaging at work won't make it go away.

Blocking IM at work is not a solution!

Article reefers to problem of dealing with Instant Messangers at workplaces.

Since IM are basic way of communication for most of current internet users, it simply can't be blocked. However, using IM's at work brings a lot of legal and security issues described in the article as IM's hygiene. Solving the problem with blocking ports and remote uninstalling the application is also not a solution as there exists many ways to ommit such restrictions.
Main security threads are lack of encryption and possiblity of infecting companies systems with malicious code. Moreover, it may expose personal data such as current location, position etc. to the people from outside the company. When it comes to legal issues, it has to be regulated what should be archived similary as email flow is.

Suggested resolution of this matter is to implement fully supported enterprise IM application as standard with archiving and real delation of selected messages/calls.
