I’ve read lately a very interesting article about addiction our society to the wireless technology.
Most of us don’t see anything wrong that we carrying our cells, palmtops, laptops everywhere we go. We have strong explanation that we should available anytime anywhere. We want to check our e-mail box, call our friends, our family. According to a recent Pew Internet & American Life Project survey, 51% of those polled said it would be very hard to give up their cellphones, up from 38% in 2002.
But isn’t this technology become too good? With all our wireless and network devices we became more anxious and demanding. The author rightly noticed that there's no excuse anymore for missing a call, e-mail or text message. Let’s say that you are almost all the time available, your family can call anytime they want and for some reason you won’t be able to answer phone for a couple of hours. The girl you’re dating call and you don’t pick it up for some time – it will be almost sure that you have to excuse her, buy flower etc.. These aren't the frustrations of an isolated few, but of the mobile majority. Our phones have become such a big part of how we're able to function that it begs the question: Are we addicted to our cells?
I think that article is really worth reading. You can find it on the Forbes site under the “Cellphone addiction” title. I hope you’ll enjoy it.
