Best practices for Wi-Fi security

These days wireless LAN i very popular ,many new standards have been introduced (N standard). The hazard of beeing attacked by someone is very big. To make a productive and secure business use of WLANs you should think about overall planning, access points and client systems.

In the Overall planning you should determine the requirements and policy for Wi-Fi use first, what will be the best architecture for your WLAN and how wireless intrusion detection will be implemented.

When configuring your Access Point you should :
-turn off service set identifier
-change SSID's on all access points to unique names
-minimize coverage in unwnted areas
-have more then one authentication security combination
-use WPA2
-avoid the use of pre-shared key

When configuring your system you should :
-have a firewall installed
-keep WLAN card drivers up to date
-turn off peer-to-peer/ad hoc networking
-adjust your personal firewall so that it will prevent exposure of client ports

If you comply to those things you shouldn't have problems with your Wi-Fi network.

More over :
- You should set up mac-address filtration on access points - and give permisions for only those devices you use.
- pray to God that someone doesn't try aircrack software on your Wi-Fi especially wersion on Linx (quicker than distribution on Windows).
- pray to God that someone doesn't try crack your WPA2 using dictionary attack.

"If you comply to those things you" will decrease chance of being hacked in your Wi-Fi.
